The Indian Army recruits candidates to it ranks through two options – Permanent Commission and Short Service Commission.
Permanent Commission
As the name indicates Permanent Commission means a career in the Army till you retire. For Permanent Commission, one has to to join National Defence Academy, Pune or Indian Military Academy, Dehradunor Officers Training Academy, Gaya.
Short Service Commission
The Short Service Commission enables one to join the Army and serve as a Commissioned Officer for a short period of 10/14 years. At the end 10 yrs one has 3 options.
- Elect for a Permanent Commission
- Opt out of service
- Opt for a 4 years extension
They can resign at any time during this period of 4 yrs extension. A Short Service Commission empowers you with analytical thinking, planning skills, administrative and organizational abilities. Qualities which will make you an invaluable asset for any organization that you join after the Army. Further, woman officers are recruited only through Short Service Commission.
