Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) – Religious teacher

Being an organization that recruits people from all religions, people from various faiths serve in the Indian Army. Religion is a very important part of many of our lives.  It also serves as as source of great strength to soldiers in difficult times. Each unit has its Mandir/Masjid/Church. There is a requirement of candidates who are conversant with the scriptures and who can carryout the ceremonies in the religious places. We require Pandits/Maulvis/Padris to firstly run our religious places and also serve as Psychological Counselors for the troops to motivate them.

Religious Teachers preach religious scriptures to troops as well as do various rituals at Regimental/Unit religious institutions. Their duties include attending funerals, ministering to the sick in hospitals, reading prayers/hymns with the convalescing, visiting soldiers undergoing sentence, giving special religious instructions to children and enlisted boys as well as attending generally to the religious instructions and welfare of Officers, Soldiers and their families.

Age : 27 years to 34 years for civilian candidates and between 25 years to 34 years for re-mustered candidates as on first day of Recruitment Rally. Candidates are requested to contact nearest Recruiting office/Zone given in Para 6 of this advertisement for date of Recruitment Rally.

Educational Qualifications: Graduate in any discipline from a recognized university. In addition to this they must also posess following qualification accordingly to the religious denomination of the individuals :-
(i) Pandit : Candidates with Madhyama in Sanskrit or Bhushan in Hindi or equivelent standard in the regional language concerned. OR Those who have passed BA with Sanskrit/Hindi as one the elective(main) subjects but have not done Madhyama in Sanskrit or Bhushan in Hindi.
(ii) Pandit(Gorkha)for Gorkha Regts Hindu (Gorkha) candidates with Madhyama in Sanskrit. OR Bhushan in Hindi or equivalent standard in the Nepali Language. OR Those who have passed BA with Sanskrit/Hindi as one of the elective(main) subjects but have not done Madhyama in Sanskrit or Bhushan in Hindi.
(iii) Granthi Candidates with Vidwan in Punjabi or equivalent standard in the regional language concerned. OR Those who have passed BA with Punjabi as one of the elective (main) subjects, but have not done Vidwan in Punjabi.
(iv) Maulvi Candidates with Maulvi Alim in Arabic, Adib Alim in Urdu or equivalent standard in the regional language concerned. OR Those who have passed BA with Arabic / Urdu as one of the elective (Main) subjects but who have not done Maulvi Alim in Arabic / Adib Alim in Urdu.(v) Maulvi (Shia)for Ladakh Scouts Shia Ladakhai Personnel candidates with Maulvi Alim in Arabic, Adib Alim in Urdu or equivalent standard in the regional language concerned. OR Those who have passed BA with Arabic / Urdu as one of the elective (Main) subjects but who have not done Maulvi Alim in Arabic / Adib Alim in Urdu.
(vi) Padre Candidates who have been ordained priesthood by the approproate ecclesiastical authority and is still on the approved list of the local Bishop.
(vii) Bodh Monk : Candidates who have been ordained Monk/ Budhist Priest by the appropriate authority. The term ‘Appropriate Authority’ will mean Head Priest of the Monastery where the person has been initiated into Priesthood. The Head Priest should be in possession of Geshe(Ph D) of Khanpa or Lopon or Rabjam with proper certi ficate from Monastery.
Note : For candidates applying for remustering the minimum qualification will be 10+2.
Cultural Acceptibilty: Candidates should belong to the culture of the
appropriate religious denomination and religious quali fication acceptable to the troops. Same will be tested during the interview. Cultural acceptance from the candidates will be taken in writing at the time of preliminary screening in ZRO / IRO / Trg Centres, where the candidates will be explained in detail by the Recruiting Officer on the cultural acceptibility.
Medical Standard: A candidate should have robust physique and mental health, chest should be well developed having minimum 5 cm. expansion, should have normal hearing with each ear. Should have sufficient number of natural teeth i.e. 14 dental points with healthy gums. Should not have diseases like deformity of bones, hydrocele, varicose veins or piles. Candidates may contact nearest recruiting office / zone as given in Para 6 of the advertisement for existing rules on acceptable medical standards.
Physical Standards: Minimum Physical Standards
(i) Height – 160 cm
(ii) Weight – 50 Kg.
(iii) Chest -77 cm.
(iv) Physical Fitness Tests (PFT)

-candidate should be able to run 1600 meter in eight minutes.
Candidates applying for Pandit/ Granthi/ Maulvi/ Padre/ Bodh Monk categories must apply to the concerned HQ Rtg Zone of which the individual is a permanent native / resident.

Candidates found eligible will be issued call up letters by the concerned office/recruiting organisation for initial screening which will include checking of original certificates followed by medical examination.

PAPER I : (Maximum Marks -100). This will contain objective type questions on general awareness and will be common to candidates of all Religious denominations.
PAPER II : (Maximum Marks -100). This will contain objective questions on to check the knowledge specific to particular religious denomination to which the candidate belongs.
Note : Only those candidates who qualify in Paper I by securing a minimum 40 out of 100 marks will be allowed to appear in Paper – II.
