One of the most respectable and honorable things for all Indians is to get into the Indian Army. It is one of the most sought-after jobs in the world, as it is one of the most high paying, luxurious, and self-satisfying career to go for. In this article, we will discuss on how to get into the Indian Army after graduation.


Writing the UPSC examination after graduation is one of the easiest ways to get into the Indian Armed forces. You are eligible to sit for the exams if you are anywhere between 19 to 24 years of age, and have completed graduation from a UGC recognized institution.

Male candidates can select the Officers Training Academy or Indian Military Academy as their training institute, where female applicants can enroll at the OTA where the training is imparted.

The UPSC written examination is held twice a year in February/March and September/October. Details of the same are published in all the leading newspapers.

B.Tech or B.E. Entrances

If you are a B.Tech or B.E. degree holder, you can either opt for the technical graduate course for the permanent commission (only male candidates allowed, age cap 20-27 years) or go for the Short Service Commission selection (both men and women are eligible).

Entry Scheme Through University

This is only for male candidates and a permanent commission job. There are two entrance programs for the entry – first one is held at the campus itself, where the second interview is held at designated centers.

Career In The Army

The age limit is 19-25 years, and the candidate should be a B.Tech student. The training is imparted at the IMA. The notification of this recruitment program gets out in the month of May.

Judge Advocate General

A candidate can apply for the JAG entry course if they are a law graduate, and have secured a minimum of 55% marks. They should also be registered with the Bar council of India or state.

The training is provided at the Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai. The notification for the recruitment is published in all the newspapers in June/July. The candidate’s age can be anywhere between 21 to 27 years.
