The Indian Army presents an option for eligible and interested aspirants to join the Army as a Commissioned Officer for a time span of 10 years, which can also be extended up to a period of 14 years. There are two choices available to Commissioned Officers once they successfully complete the time span of ten years – they can either opt out of the service or elect for a Permanent Commission. Those officers who do not get selected for Permanent Commission will still be eligible for extending their service for another 4 years.
Working with the Short Service Commission of the Indian Army develops the administrative and organizational abilities of a person and it helps them to develop their planning skills as well. In addition to that, these qualities will also bring several excellent career opportunities to the Commissioned Officers once they complete the SSC employment period.
An officer who has been selected for SSC will have to attend the Officers Training Academy in Chennai within the preset deadline. The selection process for SSC consists of three different stages and they are as follows.
- Written Tests
- SSB Interview
- Medical Examinations
However, the selection process for law graduates and technical (Engineering) graduates is a little bit different. These candidates will not have to attend the written examination and they can directly attend the SSB interview and the medicals. Candidates who have done NCC Senior Division (Army) and secured a ‘C’ certificate with minimum ‘B’ grade can also skip the written examination and directly attend the SSB interview.
Officials from the Indian Army stated that only the candidates who are qualified in the examination will be subjected to a medical examination and will be asked to attend the training. The training period will be about 49 weeks and the training at the Officers Training Academy will broaden the perspective of the candidates and get them ready to join the Indian Army.
