Senior Secondary Recruit – SSR
Age: Between 17 to 21 years on the date of enrollment (Against sports quota entry, the upper age relaxation
for outstanding sportsmen, who have played at International/National/State level may be considered up to a
period of 12 months)
Nationality: Resident Indian, and Gorkhas, subjects of Nepal.
Marital Status: Unmarried male
Minimum Educational Qualification:-
1st Condition: Should have passed Class 12th (Intermediate) or equivalent with Science stream with
compulsory subjects of Physics, and Mathematics and Optional subjects of Chemistry or Biology or Computers.
2nd Condition: Minimum qualification marks required for applying for a particular type of entry into Indian Navy
may vary and the same would be communicated in the advertisement in Newspapers and the Join Indian Navy website.
Height – 157 cms and above
Weight – Proportionate body weight depending on age and height
Chest – Proportionate chest measurement with at least 05 cms expansion
Physical Fitness test:
1.6 KM run to be completed in 7 minutes
20 squats (Utthak Baithak)
Candidate should possess good mental and physical health. Should be free from any disease/disability and have no cardio-vascular disease, surgical deformities like Knock-knees, Flat-foot. Candidates should not have a history of fits or psychiatric ailments, vericose-vein etc. He should not have any type of infection in the ears.
Candidates are advised to get their ears cleaned for wax and tartar removed from teeth before appearing for the written test followed by the PFT and medical examination.
Candidate should possess color perception standard of CPII and Eye visual standards should meet the following prescribed standards for both the conditions that is with glasses and without glasses.
Without Glasses – Better Eye 6/6 and Worse Eye 6/9
With Glasses – Batter Eye 6/6 and Worse Eye 6/6
NOTE: Candidates declared permanently medically unfit by any Armed Forces Hospitals in previous recruitment for the same entry in Navy need not apply.
Training: Training for a SSR would generally consist of 24 weeks of Basic Training at INS Chilka followed by 24 weeks of professional training at the allotted trade in Naval establishments across the country. The Branch/Trade would be allotted as per the requirement of service.
Initial Engagement: On successful completion of training the initial period of engagement for a SSR is 15 years. However, this is extensible the personnel reaches 57 years based on the rank attained and the performance.
